Activities - Beaches & Surfing
Phillip Island has over 100 kilometres of coastline, much of it wonderful surf and swimming beaches. Families are well catered for on the northern beaches, since they are relatively safe. Cowes' main beach and the one east of Erehwon Point are fairly shallow at low tide, and suitable for small children. Note that it is only patrolled by Life Guards during the summer holidays. Another popular beach is found in Ventnor, at the end of Ventnor Beach Road. Surfers can catch a wave just about anytime, regardless of wind direction or swell, due to the variety of the island's surf beaches. Note however that strong rips can occur, especially at Smiths Beach and Woolamai. Again, life guards are only on duty in the summer holidays.
