Married Metals Workshop
Sondi is a contemporary jeweller who specialises in mokumé gane, a traditional Japanese technique combining up to 24 different layers in ‘woodgrain metal’. Sondi is a Fellow of the Gold & Silversmith’s Guild of Australia. Spanning almost thirty years of professional practice, Sondi’s Studio, as she is known, is an experienced teacher and mentor to aspiring contemporary jewellers. She has taught at Sydney’s Enmore Design Centre, conducted workshops throughout Australia and has collaborated with architects, artists and jewellers alike. She has exhibited in many group shows and jewellery competitions and her work features in the book 500 Brooches.
Sondi is visiting Melbourne in November and has offered to pass on her skills in 2 x 1 day workshops.
Date: Friday 22nd or Saturday 23rd of November @ $275. Only 5 benches are available per workshop, so make sure you do not miss out by booking early!
Married Metals is a Mexican technique (metals casados) where the same pattern appears on both sides, which can be used to an advantage in a piece of jewellery. Different metals are butt joined edgewise to each other by soldering to form one continuous surface. Patterns and designs are only limited by your imagination.

Provided: Shakudo & Shibuichi metals for samples
NB: Soldering skills are necessary!
