Royal Australian Navy Vietnam Exhibition

Sunday November 19 2017 10:00 am - Wednesday May 2 2018 5:00 pm

Between 1965 and 1972, elements of the Royal Australian Navy undertook continuous operational service in Vietnam. During this period the Navy operational tasks included sea, shore and air duties.

The Vietnam War was not markedly a naval conflict, but for the 13,500 members of the R.A.N who saw active service, it was real. R.A.N played a significant role in the Australian Forces overall commitment. Destroyers sailed 400,000 miles (nautical) and fired 100,000 rounds of ammunition.

HMAS Sydney carried 16,000 troops. Famed as ‘Vung Tau Ferry’.

Images, video and artefacts will convey diverse stories and incidents, many having hitherto not been available for the public to see.
